Feb. 28, 2024 By Christian Murray The number of felony assaults reported across Queens over the last month are up nearly 10% compared to the same period a year ago, according to the latest crime stats released by the NYPD on Feb. 26. During the 28-day period from Jan. 29 to Feb. 25, the number of felony assaults reported increased 9.6% in northern Queens, from 197 incidents last year to 216 this year. Feb. 28, 2024 By Anthony Medina A neighborhood dispute between a Queens state Senator and a smoke shop caught illegally selling cannabis last year boiled over this month, with law enforcement placing a restraining order on the business’ storefront. Magic Pack, a smoke shop located at 84-17 Jamaica Ave., has been shut down by authorities and is unlikely to reopen after State Sen. Joseph P. James Sanders Jr. is hosting an event in Jamaica next month to recognize outstanding women in law enforcement in celebration of March being women’s history month.
